Janmashtmi s the appearance day for Bhagwan Krishn. He appeared at midnight of the eight waning moon which falls in August/September. This is one of the greatest celebrations of the Hindu community. At Barsana Dham, we begin celebrating with dinner prasad. Then the Temple program starts with nam sankirtan and chanting of the glories and leelas of Krishn. Next, a philosophical discourse clarifies the true devotional significance of Janmashtmi. This is followed by a cultural program of dances and Krishn leelas which provide an opportunity to imagine one is truly present in Braj at the time of Krishn's appearance. During a short break everyone is welcome to come have darshan of baby Krishn and swing the Divine child. Then we continue with more chanting and Janmashtmi songs leading up to a loving and enthusiastic midnight arti.
